Yola Maria Tsolis born in 1981, Norway, is a visual artist currently based in Drammen.

She graduated with a master’s degree from Oslo National Academy of the Arts in 2014.

Her artistic practice explores the breach between space and image. By merging genres and practices from photography and textile, she examines how given expectations of time and space influences our perception. The intermediate state of two- and three-dimensional space and where the concrete (image) meets the abstract (geometry) are focal points in her work. The work is often in-situ constructions, creating a setting for the act of observation itself. Influenced by nature, geometrics and grids Tsolis work engages a method of self-organizing structures.

Parallel with her individual practice, she is part of the artist collective Svartjord.

The main motivation for the art collective is to build strong art practices by collaboration and exchange of knowledge. Ecology, spatial interventions, urbanity and collectivity are central for the group’s ethos.
